I'm back?!?!?! First post vibes

Ok, ok... Enough with all the social media, the notifications, the distractions, and the anxiety of posting online!

I've GOT to start posting online. I'll be honest, I tried to let loose for a while now. I've tried mentality shifting so I can be active on Instagram, posting on Bluesky - a clean slate, and even SubStack - which has increasingly become more social media-minded lately.

I want a place where I can keep my drawings online indefinitely. And Tumblr won't even cut it. It's too distracting too. Dude, I don't even care if no one ends up seeing this blog. The fact that there will be a container for me to exist, live, grow my drawing practice, and store my artwork is what interests me.

I have wanted to put together a website from scratch, coded from the ground up. But it's way outside of my time allowance and mental energy at the moment. So here we are. Honestly, my mentor Ricardo Delgado suggested I use Blogger for my portfolio since it's free. I used to use this for my portfolio in college. When I was editing my blog I encountered my old art from over 10 years ago, stuff that I thought I had lost when my hard drive corrupted, resulting in the loss of 5-6 years of work, including painfully my college assignments.

I think it's delightful to revisit my past artwork and see how far I've come. Assignments I felt were challenging or that developed me in my craft, are still stored here. I also have this small question where I wonder if anyone will find my artwork interesting and want to deep dive. I want to leave a trail that they might be able to find and chart a course for where my history travels. Because when I get really inspired by an artist I also love to look deep and see where they came from, and what kinds of things they like to draw, and study! I hope to give someone that possibility, should I become someone's favorite artist? Woah.

My plan is to upload old artwork I think is interesting, sorting it by year, and then once I catch up the current year, I'll be updating in real-time every once in a while. I'd like to do monthly updates but I'm expecting it to be more like quarterly or bi-annual. Peh, we'll see. I am itching to share stuff like life drawings and I have no container I feel like it's welcome in, except for this one now!

I am currently "enrolled" in The Artist's Way course and loving it. Part of the course is to learn that the more you do, the more work you make, and you have to let go of perfectionism and stop thinking about the audience while you work. These are no easy feats. And if you're on your creative journey I'm sure you know what I mean. And if you haven't started your creative journey... Well unfortunately you might be a victim of this perfectionist loop as well. I pray you get out of there, quickly!!!

Anyway, here we are, not worrying about perfection. Getting out of our destructive loops. Enjoying the journey and the bliss of creative living.

I hope you enjoy my artwork, and ultimately I hope it inspires you to be creative as well.

Love ya,

Katie
